As Christmas draws near, I’m sending warm wishes for a safe holiday filled with love, joy, and wellness. May these moments with your loved ones create cherished memories that last a lifetime.
During this festive season, let’s blend health with celebrations!
Here are some tips to sprinkle wellness into your holiday joy without becoming the Christmas Grinch.
Mindful Eating: Ensure you eat properly in the lead-up to your Christmas events. Arrive starving, and you’re much more likely to overindulge. Eating regularly during the day will help you have the energy to party and make healthier food and drink choices. Delight in holiday treats mindfully, savouring each bite.
Consider Your Mindset—Don’t fall into the “all or nothing” mindset, where you’re either 100% healthy or 100% not. Labelling food and drinks as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ creates negative associations and can heighten cravings. Instead, focus on fun in moderation when it comes to enjoying the celebrations.
Hydration Habits: Amid festive drinks, ensure to sip water. Pre-set yourself a drinking goal and go into your events with a plan. Know your limit, set a goal, and try to stick to it. We often get carried away with drinking in the company of friends & family, so make water your best friend. Try to get a minimum of 2 litres (8 cups) daily for optimal hydration
Keep Moving: Keep your regular fitness routine and stay active! Or even try dancing to festive tunes for 30 minutes or indulge in a calming 15-minute yoga session daily.
Prioritise Rest: Maintain a healthy sleep routine during party season. Sleep is important not only for energy and alertness but also helps with digestion, hunger, and overall mood. If you have a big night that lacks adequate sleep, aim to play catch-up with a quieter night or even sneak in a nap if possible! Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night for a happier, well-rested you.
Deep Breaths: Find moments for deep breathing to alleviate stress. Family dynamics and the stresses of Christmas preparation can leave us feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Remove yourself from stressful situations (hide in the bathroom if you must!) and take a moment to just breathe. Three deep breaths can calm your parasympathetic nervous system and allow you to calm down quickly. Inhale peace, exhale holiday chaos.
Cherish Connections: Christmas is a time to enjoy quality time with loved ones, enjoy their company, and have fun. Make it less about the parties, the food, and the drinks and more about the joy, love, and sharing the season brings. Plan meaningful conversations daily to relish these connections.
Establish Boundaries: Don’t hesitate to say “no” when necessary. Protect your time and energy with at least 15 minutes of daily “me-time.”
Gratitude Journaling: Keep a gratitude journal to note three things you’re grateful for each day. Try to reconnect with something you love to do. Whether it’s reading a book, cooking, hiking or your Pilates class. Whatever you love, take time out to do something that brings you joy and embrace the joy of the holiday season.

Stress-Free Zones: Take moments to unwind amidst the holiday buzz—deep breathing or a cozy stroll can work wonders.
Random acts of kindness—Be kind to others. We often get so caught up in our own lives and stresses at Christmas that we forget the simplest things can have the most positive impact. A smile, a compliment, or just holding the door open for someone can bring a bit of Christmas cheer to all.
Remember, the holiday season thrives on balance, joy, and well-being. Embrace it with an open heart and a healthy mind.
