Natalie is an expert naturopath in health and wellbeing and provides evidence-based natural health care that is effective, safe and meaningful. Using a thorough in-depth understanding of human bioscience, emotional and social factors, and natural medicine, she is able to help prevent disease, provide optimal health and wellbeing and relief symptoms by treating the whole person and the root causes of disease.
Natalie specialises in integrative mental health, integrative gastroenterology, gut microbiome and health, integrative women’s and reproductive health.
How does it work?
She uses a wide range of scientific-based, as well as traditional methods in practice, including holistic treatments like Vega Screening, Metabolic Balance, nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, diet, laser therapy and massage to help educate you and support the body to heal itself. Disorders commonly treated include fatigue, digestive complaints, IBS, stress, mood disorders and depression, allergy and sensitivities, chronic fatigue syndrome, ADD/ADHD, fertility problems, premenstrual tension, perimenopause, menopause, autoimmune issues, weight loss and thyroid problems.
Origins
Originating in Germany, the medicine of Naturopathy has been recognised since the 19th Century, but Hippocrates himself, known as the father of modern medicine and living over 2000 years ago, treated his patients using similar principles still practised by naturopaths today.
Naturopathic medicine in Australia has undergone a considerable transformation over the last 200 years. The establishment of the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine represents a major game-changer for the field that will lead the way in advancing naturopathic medicine education in Australia and internationally.
Historical evidence shows that the healing power of nature has kept people well for centuries.
A 2019 review of studiesTrusted Source of scientific reviews found that methods that use naturopathy may be effective in:
- cardiovascular disease
- musculoskeletal pain
- type 2 diabetes
- polycystic ovary syndrome
- depression
- anxiety
- some other chronic conditions
Many traditional cultures such as the Tibetans and Chinese have continued to use natural medicine to keep their populations well and they have some of the longest living people in the world today.
So maybe it’s time for you to give this amazingly powerful healing a go!
Underlying Principles
First, do no harm. Try to minimize harmful side effects and avoid suppression of symptoms.
Physician as a teacher. Educate patients and encourage them to take responsibility for their own health.
Treat the whole person. Consider all factors (e.g., physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, genetic, environmental, social) when tailoring treatment to each patient.
Prevention. Assess risk factors and in partnership with patients, make appropriate interventions to prevent illness.
Healing power of nature. Seek to identify and remove obstacles to the body’s natural processes for maintaining and restoring health.
Treat the cause. Focus on the causes of a disease or condition, rather than its symptoms.
Healing in a natural way is completely different from the way in which Orthodox Medicine deals with disease. I think it is important for you to know about the way in which natural healing takes place so you can understand the process.
According to the principles of homotoxicology (Prof.Dr. Reckeweg MD), the body will, at first contact with an external homotoxin (anything toxic to the body), try to excrete the homotoxin. You notice this as direct discharges like increased perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, runny nose, etc.
Should the body be unable to rid itself of homotoxins by means of excretion then it will increase its temperature in order to ‘cook a homotoxin to death’. Bacteria and viruses are well known to be heat sensitive but for instance, a heavy metal, which equally is a homotoxin, is not. This ‘reaction’ phase results in local inflammation or a generalised fever. Regarding a generalised fever: bar the frail and elderly, most people have no need to worry about running a temperature up to 40 degrees Celcius (at 39.5°C all immuno-competent cells are about 80% more effective than they are at 37°C) providing you rest and your water intake does not fall below 2 litres of pure water a day. What you want is a short, sharp inflammatory response, not a drawn-out simmer.
Providing it changes big parameters like milieu interieur or intestinal health, natural healing is not just ‘scribbling in the margins‘, it is ‘changing the text’.
Should the body be unable to rid itself of homotoxins by means of inflammation (reaction phase) then it will have to store homotoxins in order not to have them in circulation in too high a concentration. The mesenchym connective tissue works as an immediate storage reservoir (Prof.Dr. Pischinger MD; Ground Matrix Regulation) and also benign deposits will form. Prolonged storage often occurs with damage to intercellular structures and with enzyme blocks. Elaboration on this particular aspect goes beyond the purpose of this web page.
Many forms of natural remedies will make the body detoxify. The body will make a start with excreting the most immediate (non stored) homotoxins. Once those have been cleared the body will try to release stored homotoxins (and retoxins) and try to excrete (or burn) them in a similar fashion as it cleared the immediate toxins. Whether or not the body can rid itself of stored, intracellular homotoxins depends on the availability of adenosine-triphosphate. So what you will notice is mostly a short sharp appearance. This is necessary; your body is after all only doing now what it should have done – but for whatever reason wasn’t able to do – when first this homotoxin entered your body.
Instead of being welcomed for the biologically purposeful processes they are, excretion and inflammation/fever are often thought of as something ‘bad’. The thought of going ‘back in time’ and having unresolved illnesses poke their ugly heads above the surface frightens some people, and the transient headache often experienced during the early stage of a vegetable juice fast detoxification is a nuisance. It is nonetheless the only way for your body to clean itself, the only way to rid yourself of homotoxins. Providing you control the speed of this process of detoxification carefully, the process should not prove too rough. Pronounced detoxification reactions do occur however and the first line of assistance comes in the form of ‘telephone mental support’, an adjustment of naturopathic remedy dosage, or simply an icepack on the head. Some folk just have an ‘easy ride home’, reactions vary and it is difficult to predict who will fall into which category. Detoxification isn’t dangerous, what is dangerous is keeping toxins inside your body!
For instance giving anything from hormone treatment to psychotherapy to a patient with a substantial mineral deficiency (vitamins & minerals are involved in the chemical assemblage of hormones, co-enzymes, etc.) would seem like going about medicine back to front. Why not first make sure that big parameters are intact before embarking on isolated biochemistry manipulations with synthesised medication?
Thanks to combining biochemistry, medical physiology, and nutritional science, natural healing finds itself increasingly scientifically underpinned. This is not just helpful, it is wildly interesting and exciting.
Natural healing requires change – and therefore effort – plus a long-term view which makes for a fine trio of known human weak points. Remember that no single, incidental natural remedy will prove consequential in the long term. Only daily, coordinated teamwork between different natural remedies (i.e. synergy between food, nutritional supplements, exercise, joy, homeopathy…) will make an impact. The disease is a powerful adversary but Natural Healing, done properly, is an equally powerful force, use it to get well and use it to keep well.
