Acupuncture is an ancient practice involving thin needles insertion into specific points on the body to relieve pain and promote healing. However, acupressure is an excellent alternative for those uncomfortable with needles that involves applying pressure to the same points on the body.
Here are five acupressure points that can help soothe stress and anxiety:
- Yin Tang: This point is located between the eyebrows, in the centre of the forehead. Applying gentle pressure to this point can help calm the mind and relieve stress.
- Pericardium 6 (P6): P6 is located on the inner forearm, about two finger widths above the wrist crease. Applying pressure to this point can help relieve anxiety and nausea.
- Heart 7 (H7): H7 is located on the palm side of the wrist, in line with the little finger. Applying pressure to this point can help relieve stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
- Liver 3 (LV3): LV3 is located on the top of the foot, between the big and second toes. Applying pressure to this point can help relieve stress and promote relaxation.
- Governing Vessel 24.5 (GV24.5): GV24.5 is located between the eyebrows at the base of the bridge of the nose. Applying pressure to this point can help relieve stress and promote mental clarity.
It’s important to note that while acupressure can be a helpful tool for managing stress, it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. If you are experiencing chronic stress or anxiety, speak with a healthcare professional.
